First Download
After installing and pairing the extension, complete your first download with Ghost Downloader.
Find a download link in the browser
Open any page containing file downloads, such as GitHub Releases, a cloud drive share page, or the software's official website.
Click the download link
The browser extension automatically intercepts the download request, and Ghost Downloader shows a task confirmation dialog (Draft).
On video pages, you can also hover over the video and click the download button that appears.
Confirm the download
The dialog shows the file name, size, and download directory. Click the Download button once confirmed.
Click the file name to rename it; click the edit button on the right to modify advanced options such as URL, headers, and proxy.
Watch the progress
The task card in the main window shows speed and progress in real time. The HTTP download progress bar is colored by segment, with each segment corresponding to one Subworker.
Finish
Double-click the task card to open the file, or right-click → Open folder.
No confirmation dialog?
Check whether the extension is connected. The extension icon should show a connected state. If not, see Extension cannot connect.
Other ways to add a task
- Paste a URL directly in the GD main window (multi-line supported)
- Drag and drop files (.torrent / .m3u8) or links onto the window
- Enable clipboard monitoring: a confirmation dialog appears automatically after copying a URL
- Turn off "Use Draft mode when intercepting" to skip confirmation and start downloading directly.
